
The Santa Clara Convention Center has been recognized as one of the greenest, most environmentally sensitive buildings in the United States. In addition, the City of Santa Clara was named Green Power Program of the Year by the U.S. Department of Energy. Also, the Santa Clara Convention and Visitors Bureau is a member of the Green Meetings Industry Council.

- Green Power Partner with Silicon Valley Power: The Convention Center conserves by purchasing Green Power “clean energy,” providing environmental savings through preventing the release of 933 tons of carbon dioxide, a key greenhouse gas. This is the climate impact equivalent to planting 777 acres of forest or taking 171 cars off the road for one year.
- The Convention Center’s conservation program has reduced waste by 101 tons in 2009 and has been a Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) award winner for seven consecutive years (2003-2009).
- Since 2002, the Center has recycled paper, cardboard, glass, and aluminum. Equipment that is no longer used is sold, recycled paper products are purchased and bought in bulk, and recycled toner cartridges are used as are refill soap dispensers.
- Full-service caterer ARAMARK (PDF) contributes food to Second Harvest Food Bank
- ARAMARK is aggressive in its effort to positively impact the environment, including presenting “green meeting” suggestions to event planners.

Green Awards Received by Santa Clara Convention Center
Santa Clara Convention Center has received awards for going green and being environmentally sensitive. Santa Clara Green Power Champion Certificate for the purchase of 100% renewable wind and solar energy and Green Power Champion Corporate Half-Turbine Level for the commitment to supporting the generation of 1,608 megawatt hours of renewable energy.
Santa Clara has purchased over 1.5 million Kilowatt Hours of Clean Energy.
